Why use a reel on a spearfishing speargun?

When spearfishing, a reel has two main benefits:

To capture large fish, it secures your catch by allowing the line to unwind to let the fish tire itself out.
Tip: Maintain a slight tension so that the fish does not come unhooked.

If a spear is stuck do not take any risks! Let the line unwind as you come up to the surface. You will keep contact with your gun, which is very handy in low-visibility areas.
